Unofficial contract terms for OU football coach Brent Venables released

The possible terms of OU head football coach Brent Venables’ new job were released this week.

Terms are subject to change, but Venables is expected to make nearly $7 million in his first year at the University of Oklahoma.

Venables said Monday after his highly anticipated introduction as OU’s new head coach that he is excited about the new opportunity.

“But to be able to wake up today and go into the office and have a team meeting, I’m not sure when was the last time I felt so fulfilled and excited and I just want to thank the players for being there today. ” he said at a news conference on Monday.

The unapproved contract currently commits Venables to the team until 2028.

His annual base salary is $325,000 with an annual increase of $100,000.

The contract includes terms for “additional and outside revenue from unrestricted private funds for personal services, fundraising, promotion, public relations, endorsements, speaking engagements and all other athletics-related contracts and activities for the University in the amount of $6,075,000 annually . ”

Approximately $600,000 will be included as a retirement benefit.

If he coaches the team to an NCAA National Championship, he earns an additional $400,000 bonus.

The finalized terms of the contract will need to be approved by the university’s Board of Regents.
