Crysencio Summerville says which Leeds United player he developed a real ‘connection’ with on the pitch

Crysencio Summerville will be hoping to be Leeds United’s main man for the last time this season on Sunday.

Leeds are set to face Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley to compete for the final Premier League spot next season.

Summerville were crowned the division’s POTS last month after scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists during the regular campaign, adding to that tally against Norwich City last week.

Unfortunately, his performances weren’t quite enough to put Leeds over the line for the top two, but Sunday’s final will give both him and his teammates another chance to secure an immediate return to the top flight. peak.

Leeds were beaten on both occasions by Southampton in the regular season, with Summerville enduring a tough few afternoons in front of star man Kyle Walker-Peters. Hopefully it will be different at Wembley.

Summerville says he has built a real “connection” with Junior Firpo this season

Leeds’ attacking players have grabbed the headlines this season and when you think of links, Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Willy Gnonto always spring to mind.

A third of Rutter’s 15 league assists in the regular season came for Summerville, while the Dutchman and Gnonto became instant best friends both on and off the court following the latter’s arrival in the summer the year 2022.

However, in an interview with Leeds Live, Summerville actually spoke of the “connection” he’s built with Junior Firpo as one he’s really enjoyed developing over the past few months.

Since establishing himself properly in the team in January, Firpo has provided eight assists from left-back. His consistent ability to reach the overlap was the perfect foil for Summerville’s tendency to cut inside with his stronger right foot and deflect shots.

Summerville said: “Throughout the season, our connection has grown a lot. I love playing with Junior on the left and we feel like we’re on water. I can only say that it was good.

“Normally, some people might throw a shot, but he looked and saw me and thought, ‘Okay, Cree’s in a better position’, so he played the ball to me.”

The left back battle between Leeds and Kyle Walker-Peters will be crucial on Sunday

One of the most important battles in Sunday’s final will be on Leeds’ left-hand side, where he will meet Walker-Peters.

Walker-Peters beat them both during the match at Elland Road earlier this month, flaying Firpo for the second goal and limiting Summerville to just two dribbles.

If Leeds can pull off a two-on-one against the former Tottenham defender, though, they could get some real joy in that part of the pitch.

Not only will Firpo need to be sharpest defensively, but his overlapping runs could be so crucial to Leeds’ ability to create chances and win the game.
