Sheffield Wednesday have agreed to “agree terms” with an “excellent” youngster over a new contract

Sheffield Wednesday will tie down a young gem to a new contract.

Sheffield Wednesday have had a busy couple of weeks since confirming their Championship survival.

The Owls are set to release six players when their contracts expire, with the likes of Barry Bannan, Di’Shon Bernard and Josh Windass in talks to extend their stays.

With seven players set to return to their parent clubs at the end of their loan spells, Wednesday’s squad looks pretty depleted.

While they will certainly be looking to do some major transfer business this summer, they could also be looking to give a chance to some academy players.

The club have already confirmed that 18-year-old Pierce Charles has signed a new contract, shortly after Danny Rohl made it clear how much he wants the goalkeeper to stay.

Jack Hall is set to join Sheffield Wednesday

With James Beadle back at Brighton, Wednesday need some squad depth between the sticks and could once again look to youngsters.

According to journalist Joe Crann, it now looks like Jack Hall will join Charles in putting pen to paper this summer.

Crann wrote of X: “He’s led to believe that #SWFC England youth international Jack Hall has agreed a new deal that will keep him at Hillsborough beyond the end of this season.”

The 19-year-old has worked his way through the academy ranks and has been involved in first-team training since he was just 17.

The England youth international is still awaiting his senior debut for the Owls but was named on the bench for the FA Cup games against Coventry City earlier this year.

What’s next for the Owls goaltenders?

Jack Hall and Pierce Charles could be the only goalkeepers left at Hillsborough heading into the transfer window, with Cameron Dawson’s future uncertain.

The 28-year-old has been offered new terms but looks unlikely to be first choice for Wednesday next season.

The Owls have two very promising young goalkeepers in their ranks, but the pair would certainly benefit from loan outings this summer.

Wednesday should look to sign a first-team regular, which could be James Beadle again.

If Dawson stays, he can continue as a backup, but Hall and Charles will only see their development stunted if they’re forced to sit the entire season.
