Sheldon Country Park attack sees four teenagers arrested

Four teenagers have been arrested after a man was attacked during an attempted robbery at Sheldon Country Park. The victim was approached by a group of masked men who tried to steal his bike and bag at 5.15pm yesterday, Tuesday 22nd May.

They assaulted him before leaving. The police conducted a search in the area and two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were found hiding in a bush. Two others, aged 15 and 17, were arrested nearby on Land Lane. All four teenagers remained in police custody.

The country park is a popular place for families. Earlier this year, plans resurfaced for visitors arriving by car to be charged for parking. Sheldon councilor Colin Green said at the time: “There was a proposal maybe a year ago to introduce parking charges in Sheldon. It was quickly withdrawn after significant public opposition.

“It may prevent those who don’t have cash from leaving, which is not good for our community or the overall health and well-being.”
