Coronation Street residents were horrified by some news about Corey Brent earlier this week.

On Monday night, Abi Webster was left devastated when she turned on the TV to hear the presenter sing the praises of Corey and his football prowess. TV watchers will recall that Nina Lucas and her then-boyfriend Seb Franklin were attacked by a gang of thugs in 2021 as part of a hate crime storyline in which they shouted abuse about the character’s goth identity . Abi’s son Seb later died from his injuries in heartbreaking scenes.

The story had many similarities to what happened to Sophie Lancaster, who was murdered in a Lancashire park in 2007, and the soap worked with a foundation set up by the 20-year-old’s mother, Dr Sylvia Lancaster OBE. As part of the storyline, Corey and Kelly Neelan were arrested following the horrific hate crime attack with Nina suffering from memory loss, later remembering that Corey was the one who killed Seb. Corey was eventually charged with Seb’s murder and later pleaded guilty to murdering Abi’s son Seb, where he was put in prison.

Abi was horrified earlier this week to see Corey being praised on TV, to which husband Kevin Webster was forced to reveal that Corey plays for the prison football team. After watching the documentary, painting Corey as a hero, Abi was left furious when she and Nina appeared at the television company responsible for the documentary, storming into the producer’s office, demanding answers.

In Wednesday’s episode, Nina and Abi are delighted to see that a petition has been launched calling for the documentary to be taken down. However, Abi is in for more horror later in the week when her ex-drug dealer Dean turns up begging for help as he hits a rough patch which she sends him packing. The altercation is witnessed by Cassie Plummer, who previously had a crush on Kevin and saw Abi as a rival. Later, in the office, Tyrone opens an email and is horrified by its contents, telling Abi that he has shocking news.

Spoilers for later in the week seem to reveal what the email contains, as Abi is horrified to see that a sex video has been uploaded to other websites. It wasn’t long before Cassie told Kevin how she saw Abi arguing with Dean shortly before the sex tape was released and then overheard her arranging to meet him to turn him in the money.

Meanwhile, Abi meets Dean and, holding a key, accuses him of making the sex tape. A stunned Dean insists he has no idea what she’s talking about, to which a furious Abi doesn’t believe him. Kevin arrives just in time to order Abi to drop the key. While Dean is being taken in for police questioning, Abi learns that four more videos have been uploaded. But as she studies the footage, Abi realizes that it’s not really her and they’re all deep fakes in a horrifying twist. Who is behind the videos?
