The Tories have destroyed Britain, the moment of their removal is here when the general election is called

For many of us, it’s hard to remember what it was like to live under anything other than a Conservative government.

Since 2010, cities like Liverpool have seen nothing but pernicious cuts and a government that at best seems indifferent to its problems and at worst seems to be actively working to make people’s lives harder.

To be honest, we have all lived through 14 years of cuts and chaos that have driven this country to the absolute brink. It started with the coalition government in 2010, which embarked on one of the biggest and most brutal austerity projects in modern times and cut billions of pounds of vital funding from communities.

As austerity and its effects continued, so did the seemingly endless psychodramas of the Conservative Party. Cameron was finished with the Brexit frenzy, and his successor Theresa May followed the same path shortly after.

Liverpool has its own history with Boris Johnson and nobody in this city will have been particularly surprised to see his premiership begin and end in a storm of scandal.

But they’re not done yet.

Not content to leave the country’s reputation in tatters, our standing on the world stage as diminished as the public services so many rely on – they went ahead and elected Liz Truss.

A premiership that has been overtaken by a lettuce is certainly something to scoff at, but the implications of her actions have been far from amusing – with enormous financial pressures added to the already difficult lives of those trying to keep a roof over their heads in this more and more. troubled nation.

And while Rishi Sunak may have entered Downing Street with promises of integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level – the reality was anything but.

In fact, there were more than a dozen Tory MPs elected at the last general election in 2019 who were suspended for breaking the rules, with recent scandals involving honey traps. lobbying and misuse of party funds.

Something is rotten at the heart of the Conservative Party and they are simply not fit to continue running this country.

Look around this nation today and you will see the reality of what 14 years of Conservative led governments have left us with.

The National Health Service, the largest institution created by this country, is in an existential and life-threatening crisis. A third of our country’s children live in poverty – the worst figures of any rich nation. Our justice system is in shambles and our waters are full of sewage.

Local councils are collapsing into bankruptcy at an alarming rate, long-promised solutions to the social care disaster have never materialised, and teachers are reaching into their own pockets to buy pencils for struggling children, while what classrooms are collapsing around them.

This is the legacy the Tories will leave Britain and it will take an almighty effort to turn things around.

At least now, with an election just six weeks away, there is an opportunity to begin this enormous task.
