Live M62 traffic updates as motorists face long delays in both directions

Motorists traveling along the M62 near Huddersfield are experiencing delays in both directions this afternoon.

Two separate incidents wreak havoc on the stretch of motorway between J21 for Milnrow and J23 for New Hey Road. One lane is closed westbound between J22 A672 for Rishworth Moor and J21 A6193 for Milnrow due to emergency bridge repairs.

Eastbound, one lane is closed between J22 A672 for Rishworth Moor and J23 A640 for New Hey Road due to a vehicle having its tire changed.

The lane closures are causing delays for drivers traveling on both sides of the road. Freeway camera footage shows cars queuing bumper-to-bumper westbound as traffic queues form.

It is currently unclear when the lanes will reopen. Yorkshire Live has contacted National Highways for more information.

Long delays continue during rush hour

Emergency bridge repairs being carried out on the M62 westbound near Huddersfield continue to cause delays for drivers as we head into rush hour.

Our travel partner Inrix reports: “Long delays and one lane closed due to emergency repairs to the M62 westbound bridge from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow). Congestion to J24 (Ainley Top). In progress since yesterday morning.”

9 miles of congestion on the M62 westbound

Motorists traveling along the westbound M62 near Huddersfield are facing delays of up to 25 minutes.

There are currently nine miles of back-up between J21 at Milnrow and J23 at Huddersfield due to the lane closure which has been put in place to allow for emergency repairs to the bridge.

Our travel partner Inrix reports: “One lane closed and traffic queued for nine miles due to emergency repairs to the M62 westbound bridge from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow). Congestion until just before J23 (Huddersfield). Travel time is approximately 25 minutes.”
