Ordination of John Brydges to the Holy Diaconate at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Croydon

On Sunday 19 May 2024, John Brydges was ordained to the Holy Diaconate at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Croydon, South London.

Bishop Maximos of Melitene presided over the Matins and celebrated the Holy Liturgy together with Fr. Oeconomos Georgios Christidis, the Priest in charge of the Parish. Rev. Deacon Georgios Ntallas also served. In a heartfelt ordination speech, the newly ordained deacon expressed his deep gratitude to God, IPS Archbishop Nikitas, His Eminence Bishop Maximos, his spiritual father Georgios Christids and numerous mentors and community members who have guided his spiritual journey. Deacon John reflected on the unexpected paths that led him to the diaconate, celebrating the support and instruction he received from church leaders, fellow clergy and his parish community.

He recognized the crucial role of his family, especially his wife, whose support and partnership were essential in his spiritual and personal life. The deacon recalled the influence of his parents and his wife, who instilled in him values ​​of selflessness and faith.

Deacon John’s commitment to serving God was evident as he spoke of his eagerness to learn and support divine services under the guidance of Archbishop Nikitas. He concluded his speech with a prayer, hoping that his work would be pleasing to Christ and beneficial to all, guided by faith, hope and love.

In his sincere response to the newly ordained deacon, Bishop Maximos emphasized that serving the Church is a deep sacrifice made for God’s people. He offered fatherly advice, encouraging the deacon to trust in God and keep his faith through any challenges that might arise. Bishop Maximos urged the deacon to always pray, to keep his strength and to approach his new ministry with joy and happiness. Bishop Maximos also reminded the deacon to embrace his role wholeheartedly, serving wherever the Church needed him, embodying the spirit of true service in his every action.
