Armed police storm Harborne Street as the road is cordoned off

Armed police stormed a street in Birmingham this evening. Officers and sniffer dogs were spotted as a police cordon was set up in Harborne.

Emergency services rushed to Northfield Road, close to the High Street and just past the island, just after 4pm today, Wednesday 22 May. Officers with machine guns were seen near marked and unmarked police cars parked on the street.

Witnesses claimed fully armed officers “entered a property with guns drawn”. BirminghamLive has contacted West Midlands Police for comment.

An eyewitness told BirminghamLive: “Armed police and paramedics attended the scene, along with K9s and other specialists. I sat for 30 minutes and saw quite a few vehicles enter the scene and continue to extend the cordon. It was a very strange situation.” Another added: “There is a huge police presence. I’m not sure what happened.”

Another witness posted on Facebook: “They took two dogs and a puppy out of the house and only then entered. I think six of them, fully armed with guns drawn.” It is unclear if any arrests have been made. Locals said the road was reopened after 7.15pm.
