Lidl launches bee beers containing refreshing super syrup

Lidl has launched a pack of six miniature ‘bee-ers’ containing sugar syrup to revive weary bumblebees. The tiny bottles are specially designed to revive sleepy and fading wild bees and other pollinators to give them a boost.

The first-of-its-kind adorable six-pack aims to empower Brits to help bees when they see one in need of a refreshment on the go. The campaign comes as both urban and rural areas face a decline in flowers and vegetation to support them.

According to the 2023 WWF x Bug Life report, 40% of UK bee species are suffering “dramatic rates of decline”.

Greg Bool, chairman of The British Bee Charity, which has partnered with Lidl, and offers 2cm tall ‘bee-rs’ via his website (https://www.lidl.co.uk/c/lidl -bee- rs/s10045719), said: “Much of our flora, fauna and food depend on pollinators. We’re really excited to be working with Lidl to give bees and other pollinators the spotlight and support they need.

“The Bee-rs campaign is a great opportunity for nature lovers to give a small helping hand to local biodiversity, and Lidl’s donation will help fund thousands of schoolchildren who get out into nature and learn about the precious ecosystems around them.”

To support the efforts of The British Bee Charity, Lidl is also donating £10,000 dedicated to supporting bee conservation efforts and raising awareness of pollinator health. The money will be used to educate children in UK schools and help the next generation understand the importance of protecting precious pollinators.

In celebration of World Bee Day, which took place on Monday, the supermarket chain will also be stocking honey-based drinks in stores across the country. In addition, bee-friendly plants such as French lavender, garden hydrangea, large hanging planters and Alstroemeria will be sold in Lidl stores across the country.
