LIVE: CSI and armed police at scene in Oldham after reports of stabbing

Two people were seriously injured in a “disturbance” in Oldham this evening. A large cordon was put in place after violence broke out on Busk Road in Chadderton.

Police were seen flooding the residential street behind the B&M store just before 9pm this evening. Armed officers were spotted at the scene before specialist crime scene investigation (CSI) officers arrived and began making inquiries inside the cordon.




Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said two people suffered injuries which are believed to be serious.

Locals said earlier that one person had been stabbed. The nature of any weapons used has yet to be confirmed, but Manchester Evening News understands that one believes it was a bladed item.

A cordon remains in place with increased patrols. However, GMP said they believed it had been “contained”.


A spokesman for the force said: “We are currently responding to a disturbance on Busk Road in Oldham from earlier this evening. The extent of the injuries to those involved is unclear at this time, but we have increased patrols and specialist officers in the area to keep you safe.

“Inquiries are ongoing but we believe this is a limited incident.”

Two people injured

MEN have been told that two people have been injured and their injuries are believed to be serious at this stage.

The blade may have been used

The nature of any weapons used has yet to be confirmed, but the Manchester Evening News understands one may have been a bladed item.

Breaking: Police issue statement on ‘disturbance’

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) issued a statement regarding the incident in the last few minutes.

They say

We are currently still responding to a disturbance on Busk Road in Oldham from earlier this evening.

The extent of the injuries sustained by those involved is unclear at this time, but we have increased patrols and specialist officers in the area to keep you safe.

Inquiries are ongoing but we believe this is a limited incident.”

CSI now on scene conducting enquiries

Specialist Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers arrived at the scene in the last hour and are carrying out investigations inside the cordon

Activity centered around the alley

The eyewitness says the center of activity appears to be around an alley or lane leading to the B+M store on Chadderton Way.

There is a visible pile of clothing inside the cordon at the entrance to the path

Armed police were spotted at the scene

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that he arrived at the scene at around 9pm this evening and that there were armed police at the scene. However, the cordon is understood to have been in place for some time before that.
