Rescue operation

The team learned that a child on a bike ride had fallen off the cliff path onto a steep bank (Falmouth Coastguard)

A boy has suffered a suspected serious leg injury after falling from a cliff path in Cornwall while cycling, the coastguard say.

Falmouth coastguard said lifeguards were called at 18:42 BST on Monday to a report that someone had fallen off a cliff between Maenporth and Swanpool, near Falmouth.

A coastguard team found the child had fallen about 20 m (66 ft) down a steep bank.

He was brought back to the bank using rope rescue equipment and then taken to a waiting ambulance to go to the hospital, the coast guard said.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team praised the victim, saying he was “incredibly brave” throughout his ordeal.

His age and full condition are unknown.
