Two vehicle fires break out on a short stretch of the A30

Firefighters tackled two vehicle fires which broke out just a few miles apart on the A30 in Cornwall this afternoon, Wednesday 22 May. The A30 was closed eastbound while Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene.

A caravan fire was initially reported on the road at around 12.30pm and one lane was closed at Indian Queens. About an hour later, an eyewitness told CornwallLive that the Land Rover Discovery caught fire in the same area.

One lane remains closed between Fraddon Services and Indian Queens, according to traffic monitor Inrix. Inrix traffic monitor reports: “Traffic backed up and one lane closed due to vehicle fire on A30 eastbound from B3275 (Fraddon Services) to A39 (Indian Queens). There are two separate vehicle fires in this stretch.”

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Equipments from Newquay and Padstow responded to this incident (Indian Queens). Upon arrival a vehicle fire was discovered. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used drum jets to extinguish the fire.”

A second fire later broke out near Fraddon and the road was closed: “A pumper from St Austell responded to this incident (Fraddon). extinguish the fire.”
