Update on New Parks murder investigation after teenager stabbed

Areas of Leicester’s New Parks remained cordoned off this afternoon (Thursday) as officers from Leicestershire Police continue to investigate a fatal stabbing. An 18-year-old man died at the scene of the incident, which happened yesterday (Wednesday).

Police and the air ambulance attended the scene in Glazebrook Road. just before 1:15 p.m. The man was pronounced dead a short time later, and eight hours later police announced more arrests.



Two boys, aged 17, are still in custody, being arrested on suspicion of murder. Two other men, aged 36 and 17, and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and all five also remain in custody.

Police said this afternoon that a 52-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.

A spokesman for the force said: “Scenes are being maintained on Glazebrook Road and Gillman Road. Detectives will remain in the area to carry out further inquiries while officers from the West Leicester Neighborhood Policing Area (NPA) will carry out reassurance patrols. .”

Witnesses to the incident are being urged to come forward. Detective Inspector David Greenhalgh, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) Major Crime Team, said: “While our investigation is at an early stage and a number of people have been arrested, I am appealing as anyone who has information to present itself as a matter of urgency.

“This incident happened in broad daylight in a residential area so I strongly believe there are people out there who can help. I would ask anyone with doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact the police. Anything you can tell us, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could be important. I would also ask any witnesses who saw the incident to get in touch.”
