A man has been jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 32 years for a series of slasher attacks on strangers that ended with the random killing of a woman in south London.

Mohamed Nur, 34, was armed with a makeshift blade when he slit the throat of Johanita Kossiwa Dogbey, 31, in broad daylight in Brixton on May 1, 2023.

She was walking along Stockwell Park Walk after going into central London to do some shopping when Nur attacked her from behind. She died at the scene.

Two days earlier he had slashed the faces of two women and a man in what the Old Bailey heard were “unprovoked and random” attacks.

“Innocent and Loving Sister”

Ms Dogbey’s younger sister Laura wept in court as she read a victim impact statement, paying tribute to her “pure, innocent and loving sister”, whom she described as “the most her good friend and protector”.

She said her older sister encouraged her to read and write and bought her books, but her crime “killed us all”.

“What words can I use to describe how heartbroken I am?” she said.

Her sister also described not being able to sit her school exams, saying “no matter where I am, my mind goes back to that awful day”.

Judge Angela Rafferty KC told the court that if Nur had not been arrested she believed he would have attacked again.

Nur had previously admitted killing Ms Dogbey and having a blade made from scissors, as well as another broken glass weapon, when he was arrested the next day.

He denied three counts of unlawful wounding in relation to the other attacks, but was found guilty on May 13 following a trial.

Nur was not at the Old Bailey for sentencing and also did not attend any of his court hearings.

Judge Rafferty KC said she took his absence “very seriously” and would pass sentence as if he were there.
