Welsh player misses out on £814,000 after early cash-out during Premier League final | Liverpool

A Liverpool fan was left heartbroken after missing out on a life-changing win by cashing in early. Ethan Conway, 24, placed a bet of $278 (£219/€257) on three correct scores on the final day of the Premier League season.

He correctly predicted Liverpool to beat Wolves 2-0 at Anfield in Jürgen Klopp’s last game, as well as Manchester United to beat Brighton 2-0 and Tottenham to win 3-0 against Sheffield United.

With United only leading Brighton 1-0 in the closing stages of the match, Ethan decided to play it safe and cashed in early, pocketing an impressive $6.5k (£5.1k/€6k ).

However, when Rasmus Højlund made it 2-0 in the 88th minute, he was left devastated by his decision. Had he decided not to cash out, his 3717/1 bet would have netted him a fortune of $1 million (£814,000/€956,000).

“I was just floored, really. Just broken disbelief, if anything,” he told Wales Online. “I was looking at new cars, new houses, but now it’s a different story. Well, but obviously they’re happy that I won the five grand.

Ethan usually bets on matches every weekend, but this is the first time he has been lucky and won so much. “I just had a rough guess and it just came out. Just pure luck,” he revealed. He chose to keep his winnings under wraps, convinced there was “no chance” he’d be breaking even anytime soon.
