50 volunteers cleaned up Coventry city centre

BUSINESSES have joined forces to clean up Coventry city center in preparation for spring and summer visitors.

More than 50 volunteers walked around the center for the spring clean-up event on May 13, with more than 60 bags of trash collected in the morning.

Led by McDonald’s Coventry and in collaboration with Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), the scheme involved employees, partners and representatives from other businesses on the ring road.

Coventry City Council’s Streetpride team supported the event and provided equipment for volunteers.

Volunteers met in the morning at McDonald’s and then split into groups to clean areas including The Burges, Cathedral Quarter, Broadgate, Spon Street and Belgrade.

The city center will host a number of events throughout the spring and summer, starting with MotoFest in June.

John Kiely MBE, who runs seven successful McDonald’s stores, including two in the city centre, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along in the morning to support the spring clean.

“It’s important to be proud of where you live and work, and it’s up to all of us in the town center – and visitors – to keep it clean by making sure all rubbish is binned so that we can create a better environment. .

“We have worked in partnership with Coventry City Council on projects in the past and we are delighted to be working with the BID again on this initiative.

“It was a great morning and we look forward to working with the BID to deliver new projects in the future.”

Businesses taking part on the day included McDonald’s, Primark, M&S, The Yard, Lower Precinct, 17 A Hairdressers, Coventry Building Society, Piece of Cake Marketing, Tesco, Coventry Sky Dome, Coventry BID and Blue Badge Guide.

Guenther Bakeries and Martin Brower Ltd (McDonald’s suppliers based in Coventry), Positive Youth Foundation and Coventry Police (CIRV) also took part.
