Weather in Greater Manchester as flood warnings were issued with rain to continue

Persistent rain is set to fall across Greater Manchester, with a weather warning in place for the region. A yellow warning remains in place until midday today (May 23), with the Met Office suggesting roads, rail and power could all be affected at some point.

Flooding could also occur, with “deep floodwaters” or fast-flowing water posing a “life-threatening” risk, the Met Office added. A more severe amber weather warning was in place earlier today but has since been lifted.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has issued three flood alerts for Greater Manchester, meaning flooding is “possible” and residents should “be prepared”. The alerts cover areas near the River Mersey in Stockport, Tameside and Trafford and the Upper Douglas River in parts of Wigan and Bolton.
