Teenage girl sexually assaulted by ‘someone known to her’ in Sutton park

An investigation has been launched by police after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in Sutton.

The teenager reported being assaulted by a person known to her in Sutton Town Center and Collingwood Road Recreation Ground just after 11.55pm on May 21.

It is now supported by specialist police officers.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

He was taken to a south London police station where he was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 11.57pm on Tuesday 21 May to reports of a girl being sexually assaulted in Sutton Town Center and Collingwood Road Recreation Ground.

“The victim, a teenage girl, reported serious sexual assaults by a person known to her.

“It is supported by specialist officers.

“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

“He was taken to a south London police station where he was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

“The investigation is ongoing.”
