Ian Wright slams Jamie Carragher for ‘disrespectful’ blast at Manchester United star

Manchester United’s defeat to Crystal Palace provided plenty of ammunition for criticism of the club’s players and manager.

Much of that criticism is justified after the 4-0 defeat, however, there was a real pile-on, especially towards Brazil international captain Casemiro.

On Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher blasted his performance out of position and called on the Manchester United man to look for an exit from the Premier League at the end of the season, feeling his time as a great player has now passed him by.

Fair or not, the comments have drawn some criticism from ex-professional Ian Wright, who believes Carragher was in disagreement.

Ian Wright on Casemiro

Ian Wright says he believes Casemiro is a victim of Manchester United’s disorganization and does not believe he signed for the club just for the money.

He explained via his Wrighty’s House podcast: “Jamie mentioned him after the show about how great he was, obviously he talked about him, maybe he should stop now, go to the MLS or the Saudis, which I thought pretty disrespectful if we’re going to be totally honest.

“I think when you look at Casemiro and what Man United always needed in that midfield role, when he came in how good he was, I don’t think for a moment Casemiro didn’t think at this stage of his career that he would be in such a disorganized situation.

“People are constantly throwing around how much money he’s making and that for him at the time that would obviously have been a massive bonus, but to go to Man United at this stage in his career and play with those players at that moment. the stadium would have been something that would have been so hard for him to turn down.”

Wright added that while Casemiro signed for United after the team’s poor start to the 2022/23 season, he could not have foreseen the team still struggling at the end of the second season.

He added that Casemiro would have thought: “There’s no way you can see Man United in the position they’re in now and him being so exposed.”

Casemiro could sign at a high level

As “disrespectful” as Carragher’s comments may be, there’s every chance he’s absolutely right about Casemiro’s time running out.

The Brazilian has taken a big step back this season with his performance levels, however, much of the blame should be placed on manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag choose to operate a strong attacking system which leaves United’s midfield and defense very exposed.

This is likely to be Casemiro’s last season at Old Trafford, however, this also depends on United finding a buyer, which will not be easy due to his high wages.

United close the season with the FA Cup final against rivals City, and a win would provide a perfect scenario for Casemiro and several others to sign at the top.
