#LaborDay2024 | Wheelchair ramp built at Westmoreland Health Center | News

Residents turned out in large numbers today to build a wheelchair ramp at the Cornwall Mountain Health Center, the city’s National Labor Day project.

The aesthetics of the facility were also improved by cutting the lawn. The walls and railings were painted by contestants in the Miss Westmoreland Festival Queen Jamaica Cultural Development Commission pageant.

Savanna-la-Mar Mayor Danree Delancy expressed her excitement for this year’s Labor Day theme, “faster access…show you care.”

“The councilor (for the Cornwall Mountain Division) after consultation with community members decided that the best place for this project this year would be at the Cornwall Mountain Health Centre, therefore we are putting in a wheelchair ramp here and considering the general. it facilitates a facelift, in terms of cutting the ground and making some paintings,” said Delancy The Gleaner.

Claudia Wilson, administrator of Westmoreland Health Services expressed her gratitude for the support.

“We welcome the initiative to build a ramp in the Cornwall Mountains and I’m sure people with physical disabilities will be happy with this initiative,” she said. “It’s good to see the community giving their support because the community needs to own these facilities that serve them.”
