Bulldozers are set to start knocking down buildings in Nuneaton town centre

Bulldozers will start knocking down buildings in Nuneaton town center this summer. Warwickshire County Council has confirmed that its demolition work for the ‘Justice Walk’ development will begin in July.

The £20m development will see flats and a new library and office space built in part of Church Street, Vicarage Street and Justice Walk. But some buildings will have to make way for the project.

This includes the old St Nicholas Church Hall, next to the Christadelphian Hall on Vicarage Street. The city’s main library, where generations have visited, will also be demolished.

So will the old Powell House building, the former Wilko store and current home of the Royal Mail sorting office, which is moving to a new purpose-built building in Bermuda Park.

CoventryLive has asked the county council when demolition work is due to start. A Shire Hall spokesman said: “The scheme will begin with the demolition of the Old Church Hall in July 2024. Work will begin on the site of the new library and business center on Church Street later in 2024.”
