Essential Hotel Room Safety Tips From Cabin Crew: Checking for Hidden Hazards | Leicestershire Live

A flight attendant named Esther shared a clever trick on TikTok to ensure safety in hotel rooms. She suggests that after checking into a hotel, guests should throw a bottle of water under the bed to check if someone is hiding there.

If the glass does not come out the other side, it could indicate that someone is hiding under the bed. This can be done with any item available in the room, such as complimentary toiletries or a can of Coke from the minibar.

Another flight attendant, Nassim, shared his top tip for staying safe in hotel rooms at night. He always puts his suitcase by the door, a move that alerts him if someone tries to enter the room. This can be done with any object in the room. In addition, Nassim carefully checks the entire room every time he returns to the hotel to make sure that no one is hiding.

He recalled a terrifying incident in which a female colleague was attacked in her hotel room by someone hiding in the wardrobe because she “didn’t check properly”, the Mirror reports.

Outlining her safety methods, Esther revealed: “They were attacked so every time I got to a hotel room I used my suitcase to hold the hotel door open. Then I go in and check everywhere. I was checking the bathroom, under the bed, in the cupboards, under the table and behind the curtains to make sure no one was there, I will never go into a room without doing that,” she added.

American flight attendant Kat Kamali, echoing similar sentiments, emphasized the need for caution when entering a hotel room, advising guests to immediately check “if anyone is in your room” upon arrival. She also stressed the importance of privacy around individual details, urging people not to reveal their “room number out loud” and to double-check “behind the curtains and under the bed” once they’ve checked in.
