Young woman dies after falling from Newquay cliffs

A woman has died after falling from Newquay cliffs. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the Barrowfields area at around 7.30pm on Monday (May 20).

Emergency services, including HM Coastguard and the RNLI, rushed to the scene but the woman, who was in her 20s and was from the Newquay area, was pronounced dead. Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.




Investigating officers are now appealing to the public for information about what happened. They said the woman was in the company of other people before she fell from a nearby cliff.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: “The woman is believed to have been in the company of other people before she fell from a nearby cliff. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the woman in the Barrowfields area that evening.

“Due to prior police contact with the woman on Saturday 18 May, a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as is the normal procedure in these circumstances.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 or via our website quoting log 872 of May 20.”
