Virginia Tech football odds prove how quickly Brent Pry and his staff have come

After coming off a 3-8 first season under Brent Pry, Year 2 last fall it looked like Virginia Tech might go down the same road after starting the season 1-3 with non-conference losses to Purdue, Marshall and Rutgers after one season. -opening win over Old Dominion.

That all changed once ACC play began, as the Hokies went 5-3 in conference play to finish the season 6-6 following a 55-17 Thanksgiving Day win at Virginia. They capped a 7-6 season with a 41-20 win over Tulane in the Military Bowl.

Between the Virginia win and the Tulane win, Pry and Virginia Tech got plenty of hold from some key players in the 2023 season on both sides of the ball. Combined with some huge transfer additions, it’s expected to be a big drop in Blacksburg.

It’s not just Virginia Tech fans who are noticing that many national college football writers are signing up and expecting the Hokies to have a good 2024 season. In February, their early win total over/under was 7.5, and that seems like a nice, low value. It just goes to show how quickly Pry and his staff quickly rebuilt things.

It should be little surprise to see the rebuild in its current state given the mess Pry left Justin Fuente, but given what’s happened in the last 12 months between the transfer window, recruiting and ending the 2023 season on a whim. , it’s safe to say that Pry and his staff are ahead of schedule.

One thing that needed to be built was a culture, and that’s exactly what they did. Even AD Whit Babcock has noticed and is excited about the 2024 season. All the holding back by some players who might have moved on to the NFL Draft or transfer portal sent a strong message.

The over/under win total for Virginia Tech at 7.5 looks like a good bet with restraint and a very manageable schedule in 2024, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Hokies reach 10 wins if some things go their way.
