Village pub near Coventry with ‘the best bar lunch’ and a train station nearby

Coventry has a variety of great pubs, whether you want a lively bar or a traditional country inn to relax. Many also offer delicious home-cooked meals, so if you’re out for dinner with friends and family, there’s no better excuse to enjoy a refreshing pint this festive weekend.

A pub near Coventry has been hailed as a “charming pub” offering “the best pub lunch”. The Brickmakers Arms on Station Road in Balsall Common is a 17th century pub in the village offering a selection of cask ales, sweets, beers, fine wines and classic pub food, teas, coffees and homemade cakes.

The pub has an old-style bar and ‘smart lounge’ just a few minutes’ walk from Berkswell train station and serves three changing beers. Bosses describe the establishment as “quirky” and “beautiful”.

The Brickmakers Arms has a 4-star rating on Tripadvisor, plus a 4.3-star rating on Google reviews. Kris Sarabadu said: “Probably the best pub lunch I’ve had. Great food, tons of it, reasonably priced. Nice little venue with a sun garden and really lovely staff.”

Leena Marsh said: “Wonderful pub with that genuine feel (not a chain). Burger was brilliant and huge, large portion sizes and quality was really there. Friendly service, coloring books provided for young children with colours. “

Stuart Davison says he would call The Brickmakers Arms a ‘traditional pub’: ‘What I would call a ‘traditional’ pub. No televisions or loud music. Just a nice location with great beer and pretty good food.”

For those looking to make the most of the long weekend, The Brickmakers Cottage – which has a separate entrance from the pub – is offering patrons the chance to stay. Once there, you can keep to yourself or be as involved in the pub as you like.

The cottage offers three double rooms and one single room, all with en-suite bathrooms. There are also tea and coffee facilities and access to TV and broadband. There is also off-road parking and is convenient for attractions such as the NEC, Symphony Hall, Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as if you just want a relaxing weekend at an English pub.

The pub offers home-cooked classics from fish & chips, bangers and mash, camembert, southern fried chicken burgers and more. The chef’s team are planning a new menu to be launched in a few weeks, alongside a new beer garden in time for Euro 2024.
