Leeds pub closed after ‘landlord seriously assaulted underage drinker’

A pub in Leeds has been closed suddenly after “the landlord seriously assaulted a 17-year-old drinker”, according to Leeds City Council.

The Pax Inn in Thorp Arch, Wetherby, has been closed by the council following an incident on Saturday 18 May. The shutter ad states the teenager had been drinking with friends in the bar before the owner “committed a serious assault” on the boy. .



The teenager was rushed to hospital with facial injuries and a 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. The man has been released on bail pending further enquiries, West Yorkshire Police said.

The piglet was then locked up with police concerned that “there could be further acts of violence”. The notice of the sudden closure was posted outside the pub in The Village yesterday (Thursday, May 23).

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating an attack at the venue on May 18 in which a 17-year-old male received facial injuries. A man in his forties has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail pending bail. additional questions.”

The Leeds City Council notice outside the pub reads: “West Yorkshire Police have made an application to the Losing Authority for a summary review of the above licence. Pax Inn, 11 The Village, Boston Spa, Wetherby, Leeds, LS23 TAR HQ are associated with serious crime, serious disorder or both.

“The grounds for the review are that, in the opinion of a senior police officer, the premises are associated with serious crime, serious disorder or both. On 18 May 2024, the person who holds the premises license and is specified as a designated premises supervisor committed a serious offence. “West Yorkshire Police has serious concerns that there may be further acts of violence by the licencee/designated premises supervisor and is seeking the suspension/revocation of the license in order to further the relevant licensing objectives.”

Leeds City Council has been approached for further comment.
