Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl admired by Hull City

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali is ‘believed’ to be an admirer of Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl as the Tigers hunt for a new manager ahead of next season, as detailed in a report by HullLive.

Hull City have made the surprise decision to part ways with popular head coach Liam Rosenior following their failure to make the Championship play-offs this past campaign. They finished 7th and were three points off the top six after officially missing the final day.

Rohl, 35, has worked wonders at Sheffield Wednesday since taking over at Hillsborough from Xisco Munoz last October. However, his long-term future in South Yorkshire remains up in the air and it is not yet known whether he will stay with the Owls next term.

Sunderland are believed to want a permanent replacement for Michael Beale this summer, according to a report in the Northern Echo. In this latest update, HullLive claim that the Tigers are now apparently fans of the German.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Hull City’s decision to cut ties with Rosenior has not gone down too well with the club’s supporters and their hierarchy must ensure they get their next managerial appointment right.

Rohl did a great job at Sheffield Wednesday and kept them in the second tier against the odds. He has made the Owls play an attractive style of game and they will be desperate not to lose him over the next couple of months, especially against a team in the same league.

The Tigers are an ambitious club though and he is said to have heavily backed Ilicali in the transfer market. They were in the Premier League as recently as 2017 and aim to get back there as soon as possible.

Before moving to England, Rohl worked at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and the German national team. His role with the Owls is his first number one position and at just 35 years of age, he looks to have a bright future ahead of him in the dugout.

What’s next for Hull City?

Hull City had a distinct style of play under Rosenior and had the ability to attract top talents such as Fabio Carvalho, Liam Delap and Tyler Morton under his management.

It feels like they’ve taken a step back by ditching their former right-back, unless their next manager is an attractive appointment.

The vacancy at the MKM Stadium will continue to be an attractive proposition and there is the potential to make a real impact next campaign. Rohl won’t be the only name in the frame as Ilicali weighs its options.
