One person dies after being hit by a train near Croydon

One person has died after being hit by a train between Purley and Croydon.

Emergency services were called to the lines near Purley Oaks station at around 9.47pm yesterday (May 23) to an accident on the tracks.

Officers from the British Transport Police along with paramedics attended the scene.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line near Purley Oaks station at around 9.47pm yesterday (May 23) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also intervened, but unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
