Championship boss reveals how Leicester City contract ‘change’ led to transfer breakdown

Steven Schumacher has revealed that Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League has made it harder for Stoke City to turn Daniel Iversen’s loan move into a permanent move.

Speaking to sister title StokeonTrentLive, the Potters boss reflected on the deal that saw him trigger Viktor Johansson’s release clause and bring him to the bet365 Stadium from relegated Rotherham United.

However, he also admitted that Johansson was one of the few goalkeepers the Championship side considered, with Iversen, who spent the second half of the season on loan from City, another.

Iversen has done well for Stoke, helping them settle in his 18 games and playing his part in seven clean sheets, with talk that Schumacher could return for him this summer.

However, the 40-year-old admitted that raising foxes made the process more difficult.

“There were other goaltenders we considered, Daniel Iversen being one of them,” he told the Sentinel. “He was brilliant for us in the game, excellent by the way. I spoke to Daniel at the end of the season and his circumstances were always going to be difficult because we didn’t know if Leicester were going to go up. Now they did and Daniel’s contract situation changed and it was going to be another conversation for us that could have lasted.
