Danny Rohl says he made the “right decision” as he signs new Sheffield Wednesday contract

A journalist has explained why Danny Rohl made the “right decision” to sign a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday look set for good news in the coming days, with reports claiming Danny Rohl has signed a new four-year contract.

The German joined the Owls in October and has guided them to safety despite spending the majority of the campaign in the bottom three.

There had been concern for months that Rohl might leave the club, especially if they failed to stay sober.

Sunderland were a club interested, while Hull City also threw their name in the hat after sacking Liam Rosenior at the end of the season.

Wednesday’s survival gave fans a lot of hope that he will stay though, and now Rohl appears to have ruled out a contract renewal in a recent interview.

The 35-year-old admitted it was “helpful” to his “personal development” to stay at Hillsborough as he aims to finish in the first half of next term.

Rohl could have chosen the group had he left Sheffield but instead opted to stay with the club that brought him to England.

Sheffield Wednesday fans ‘love’ Danny Rohl

Journalist Dom Howson has now insisted that Rohl made the “right decision”.

Writing on X, he said: “One hundred percent the right decision by Danny Röhl to extend his stay #SWFC. The fans love him, and there’s no guarantee he’d have that kind of connection anywhere else. There is still a great deal of work to be done at Hillsborough. Top 10 is a realistic goal for next season.”

He added: “So important for #SWFC to sort out the DR future at the start of the summer. The last thing they needed was for it to drag on and for there to be any uncertainty. Now, the club can continue with the rebuilding of the team. Expect many of the players who have been offered new deals to stay now.”

Danny Rohl has a good head

Sheffield Wednesday haven’t produced a bond manager like Danny Rohl in a very long time.

Even Darren Moore, who guided them to a dramatic play-off victory last season, was heavily criticized by supporters and left just a month later.

Rohl is very early in his career and hadn’t even managed a club before arriving on Wednesday, so he will understand that he shouldn’t be making huge strides any time soon.

He has settled in very well at Hillsborough and will benefit from staying in the same area with the same people.

There are plenty of managers who have taken big leaps too soon and failed, but Rohl was sensible and stuck with the club that really loves him.
