Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has urged the club to strengthen their squad by adding Michael Olise and Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Red Devils endured a hugely disappointing season, finishing bottom of their Champions League group before ending the top-flight campaign in eighth – their worst showing in the Premier League era.

However, United have the opportunity to end the season on a high in this weekend’s Manchester FA Cup final clash, a repeat of last year’s clash – which ended 2-1 to City.

Rumors emerging from Old Trafford suggest Erik ten Hag will be relieved of his duties regardless of the result at Wembley, with the likes of Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank and Mauricio Pochettino all mooted as potential replacements.

And while there remains uncertainty over who will manage United next season, work is already underway behind the scenes to determine targets for the summer transfer window, which opens on June 14.

Earlier this month, The Telegraph reported that INEOS were open to offers for most of the first-team squad, with a major overhaul expected in the coming weeks and months at the Theater of Dreams.

Crystal Palace striker Olise, 22, and Everton defender Branthwaite, 21, have both been heavily linked following eye-catching seasons, with Brown – a five-time Premier League winner with United – believes that the young duo would be excellent signs for him. former club

“I’m very realistic and I’m the type of person who always thinks about, you know, who’s already done it in the Premier League?” Brown told SPORTbible.

“I think we need some really solid guys from other teams that have done really well.

“I would say Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, I think he is exciting. He has this rawness about him, he doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything.

The former United and England defender added: “I think the obvious one is someone in defence.

“And Jarrad Branthwaite for me is young and still learning, but he’s big, strong and quick.

“I just feel like it would help tremendously.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe
United should avoid just trying to ‘buy success’, says Ratcliffe (Image: Getty)

Discussing United’s transfer strategy in March, Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the club needed to “get the recruitment right” rather than trying to “buy success”.

“The first thing we have to do is get the right people in the right boxes, managing and organizing the club,” United’s new co-owner told the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast.

“We have to make sure we recruit correctly, such an important part of running a football club is recruiting correctly, finding new players.

“I’d rather find the next (Kylian) Mbappe than spend a fortune to buy success.

“Not so smart, is it, buying Mbappe?” In a way, anyone could figure it out.

“But what is much more difficult is finding the next Mbappe, or the next Bellingham, or the next Roy Keane.”
