The score of the match

Glamorgan reached an impressive 352-8 on day one against Leicestershire thanks to Eddie Byrom’s 86 and Kiran Carlson’s 80.

They were put to bat on a very green wicket which looked set to benefit from the seam bowlers.

Scott Currie (4-53) was the pick of the home attack as Glamorgan fell before tea to Carlson’s attacking burst.

But Sam Northeast’s composed 61 revived their fortunes in the final session.

Glamorgan rested goalscorer Colin Ingram to play Pakistan’s Mir Hamza for his final game alongside Marnus Labuschagne, a fit Timm van der Gugten playing his first game of the season, while Leicestershire gave debut to on-loan Ian , the Hampshire all-rounder. Holland in place of the rested Rehan Ahmed.

Byrom and Billy Root had to fight for survival under overcast skies on the strong grass wicket which looked designed to produce a positive result after six draws for the Foxes.

Despite surviving a couple of overs and lbw calls, they brushed aside the odd bad ball and were not under consistent pressure in the early stages as they added 90 before Root (40) smashed Ben Mike at point .

Labuschagne was bowled for eight, leaving one to Currie, who took his off-stump, but Carlson made his score on the move better than a run a ball, while Byrom found his touch, driving fluently in the most good innings of the season.

After hitting 13 fours and two sixes and being bowled on 49, Byrom dragged a wide ball from Matt Salisbury onto the stumps.

But Carlson continued his onslaught and Glamorgan looked in control, especially as crotcheter Tom Scriven went off injured after his first four.

That changed quickly just before tea as Carlson bowled to the mid-wicket boundary around off-spinner Louis Kimber, Currie removed Chris Cooke’s middle stump for two and Zain Ul Hassan was dropped in a weird by Mike, the ball eventually rolling back to him. stumps after an lbw appeal had been dismissed.

Currie continued his threat by snaring Mason Crane lbw for 14, the batsman so bad he practically walked, but Northeast was still there at the ground where he scored a record 410 not out for two years after.

He added a quiet 62 with van der Gugten (32) to halt the home’s momentum before Currie returned to dismiss the Netherlands international ahead.

James Harris’ boundary in the final over of the day took Glamorgan to a third batting point, Leicestershire not making the best use of the green wicket.
