Liverpool and Arsenal ‘battle for $27m transfer’ as manager bids for Arne Slot role

Liverpool are technically in the interim period Jürgen Klopp leaves and Arne Slot arrives at Anfield, but the former is already on holiday and the latter will be making plans. This summer, the incoming Dutchman wants to hit the ground running.

With transfers, contracts and backroom appointments to think about, Slot has a lot to deal with. While his official start date is June 1, chances are he’s already had plenty of meetings about what’s to come.

Among those discussions will no doubt be transfer planning, even if it will be led by sporting director Richard Hughes. Here’s a rundown of the latest Liverpool news.

Liverpool and Arsenal are battling for the transfer of Justin Bijlow

Liverpool and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow before the summer transfer window opens. The Reds would need a signing in that department if only Caoimhín Kelleher is asking for an exit, while the Gunners need to sign a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale.

In England, The Telegraph report that Arsenal have the 26-year-old on their radar, while in Holland, De Telegraaf say they could follow Ass Slot to Anfield. Manchester United swooped on Bijlow last summer before landing André Onana. The Old Trafford side were cited $27m (£21m/€25m) for his services.

The Portuguese coach is applying for the role of Arne Slot

After Liverpool placed an advert on LinkedIn calling for applications for a new coaching role from the market, Portuguese manager Rúben Pinheiro has revealed he has put his hat in the ring. Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp, but Liverpool also lose Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, Andreas, Schlumberger and Andreas Kornmayer.

“In my opinion, the impact of fasteners is not new,” Pinheiro told the Record. “Now it becomes very relevant, considering the evolution of the game, the fact that more and more teams are working in detail.
