Sheffield Wednesday would be wise to join Mickel Miller chase: Opinion

Sheffield Wednesday will be on the lookout for fresh faces this summer as they look to bounce back after avoiding relegation to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday looked set to go straight back into the third tier before Danny Rohl came on, but the German rookie’s admirable work at Hillsborough saw them to safety.

Now, assuming positive talks lead to an agreement on a new deal, he will be determined to add some new faces to the ranks and look further up the Championship ladder.

Rohl and co will be sure to already have potential targets in mind. The quicker they can do business, the better their preparations for the 2024/25 campaign will be.

However, one man Sheffield Wednesday should turn their attention to is Mickel Miller.

A wanted player

Miller is nearing the end of his contract with Plymouth Argyle. He has been offered new terms, but if he opts out of the deal, he will be free to move on for nothing before next season.

That has already sparked interest elsewhere. Reports said Preston North End and Championship new boys Portsmouth and Oxford United are both keen on the left-back ace.

However, it would also suit Sheffield Wednesday. Miller is a flexible player who can operate anywhere on the left side, playing primarily as a full-back, but is also capable as a winger or full-back.

That could make him a good cover and competition for the reliable Marvin Johnson.

As a free agent, he would be a low-cost, low-risk signing for the Owls, and as a proven Championship player with good years ahead of him, the 28-year-old is certainly one the club should consider.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Get on with business

Things appear to be moving in the right direction between Rohl and the Sheffield Wednesday hierarchy in terms of securing his future.

Once everything is sealed and confirmed, expect the club to quickly move on with preparations for the new season. Contract deals will hopefully follow quickly and new signings will also be targeted at the start of the transfer window.

Existing interest in Miller means the Owls would benefit from a quick move. He could be a great addition for Rohl and co., but time will tell exactly what his immediate future holds.
