Live M62 traffic updates as driver crashes into barrier near Huddersfield

Police have blocked the M62 near Huddersfield in both directions after a driver crashed into the center barrier.

Congestion built up around the stage between Denshaw and Huddersfield, with delays of around 20 minutes. The accident took place around 4:00 p.m.

National Highways said: “Traffic has been stopped in both directions on the M62 between J22 (Denshaw) and J23 (Huddersfield) following a collision where the central reservation barrier has been hit. There are currently delays of at least 20 minutes approaching both. ways.”

Traffic data website Inrix said: “All traffic temporarily stopped and traffic stationary due to the accident on the M62 in both directions from J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor). The accident takes place in the west direction”.

Queueing traffic for “five miles”

Inrix said:

One lane closed and traffic queued for five miles due to an accident on the M62 in both directions from J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor). Congestion to J24 (Ainley Top) westbound. The journey takes about 25 minutes.

After a full closure, lane three remains closed in both directions. The accident happened in the westbound direction. One vehicle broke down in the westbound lanes.
