Success continues for the University of Birmingham in the global rankings

The University of Birmingham has maintained its position among the world’s best performing research-intensive universities – with seven fields placed in the Top 50 of the latest QS World University Rankings by subject.

Two of the University’s five faculty areas are in the top 100 of the prestigious global ranking – with Life Sciences & Medicine at 68 and Arts & Humanities at 64.

Sports, dentistry, English, theology, anatomy and physiology, performing arts and linguistics all feature in the Top 50. Again, sports are in the top 10 (7), linguistics up 21 places to 28, performing arts up three places to at 49. and English with one place at 26.

There are 27 fields in the top 100 – an increase of five on last year, with Civil Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Mechanical Engineering and Modern Languages ​​all new in the top 100 for 2024.

The most remarkable increases are: Psychology (+16 to 58); Materials Science (+22 to 70); Mechanical engineering (+19 to 85); Sociology (+26 out of 100); and Environmental Sciences (+21 to 100).
