The out-of-contract star signs a long-term deal with their Super League rivals

Salford Red Devils have confirmed the signing of Esan Marsters on a two-year deal from Super League rivals Huddersfield Giants. Marsters is not under contract with the Giants at the end of the season, and the club wanted to retain his services.

However, Salford pulled off a significant coup to secure Marsters’ signature. He has been one of the in-form centers in Super League and is a key part of Huddersfield’s first team squad. Marsters has four tries and five assists for the Giants this season.

The Red Devils already have one of the best center partnerships in Super League. Nene MacDonald and Tim Lafai have been in stellar form this season and have been instrumental in driving Salford up the Super League. The signing raises a question mark over Lafai’s future with the club. Lafai is out of contract at the end of the season and is attracting interest from rival Super League clubs.

Marsters will pen a two-year deal with the Red Devils, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027 season. A statement on the Salford Red Devils website said:

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Esan Marsters from Huddersfield Giants for the 2025 Betfred Super League season.

“The versatile center is an exciting addition to Paul Rowley’s squad and will join the club on a three-year deal – confirming his stay until the end of 2027.”

Salford are currently sixth in the Super League table and face a tough game against Wigan Warriors this weekend. Huddersfield suffered defeat at home to Leigh Leopards on Friday night, leaving them four points adrift of the top six.
