Boy, 17, arrested after woman stabbed on beach

A 17-year-old from Lancashire has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed on a Blue Flag beach in Bournemouth. Dorset Police said they were called to reports that two women, both from Poole, had been stabbed on Durley Chine beach at around 11.45pm on Friday.

A 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. At midday on Saturday, the force said a 17-year-old boy from Lancashire had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey said: “We have worked tirelessly through the night since the initial report and have been able to progress our investigation. First, our thoughts go out to the loved ones of the woman who lost her life very tragically.

“Officers are continuing their inquiries and a cordon remains in place and is likely to remain so for some time.”

Bournemouth West MP Sir Conor Burns said: “We are awaiting further updates from the police on the horrific stabbing on the beach. A tragic death.”

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) said on social media: “A police cordon remains in place between Bournemouth Oceanarium and the west side of Alum China. “The beach, promenade, beach huts, Durley Chine car park, all businesses and access points in the cordon are currently closed.”
