House fire in Leicester sees multiple emergency services racing to the scene

A man was rescued from a house fire in Leicester on Friday night. Several fire crews and other emergency services were called to the scene.

The fire was reported at around 9.20pm last night (Friday, May 24) following reports from East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) of smoke coming from the kitchen of a property in Leicester’s St Austell Road. EMAS was in the area at another address when the smoke was detected.

Three fire crews were sent to the scene by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS). Two were dispatched from the East Fire Station and one came from the Central Fire Station.

A man who was inside the property was removed by EMAS crews before fire engines arrived. Officers from Leicestershire Police were also sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, LFRS found smoke coming from the front door of the property. The fire itself was contained to the kitchen which was at the rear of the property, with a spokesman confirming that four breathing apparatus and two drum jets were used at the scene.

The LFRS said the fire was extinguished at around 9.50pm and “positive pressure ventilation” was used to ventilate the house. All the people inside the house were found, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unclear at this stage.
