MATCH ADVANCE – SALFORD RED DEVILS VS WIGAN WARRIORS (RIGHT 12)

After a short break, Salford Red Devils host reigning world champions Wigan Warriors for the second time in 2024.

With a third of the Betfred Super League season now complete, Paul Rowley’s side return home after back-to-back away games against Huddersfield Giants and Leigh Leopards.

The Warriors are in flying form and recently booked their place at Wembley Stadium with a convincing win over Hull KR in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final.

Matt Peet’s men will be the toughest tasks for Salford, with attacking players such as Bevan French and Jai Field capable of causing problems from anywhere on the pitch.

However, in Round 5, the Red Devils showed a lot of heart to come within five minutes of a famous victory. Tim Lafai and Sam Stone were on the scoresheet but two late tries from the Warriors snatched the two points.

So will it be repeat or revenge? Here’s everything you need to know before that:

TEAM NEWS

With a week to rest and recharge, there are a few changes to the squad for Round 12.

Shane Wright, Joe Shorrocks, Gil Dudson and Joe Mellor are all back in contention after recovering from their respective injuries – a massive boost for our head coach.

However, Cade Cust, Jack Ormondroyd, Ben Hellewell and Adam Sidlow struggle with their new ones and miss out this week.

There is the potential to see new signing Harvey Wilson in action as the youngster is named for the first time since his move from Wigan Warriors.

LAST TIME OUT

The final score certainly doesn’t do justice to when these two sides last met.

Rowley’s side – inspired by another fantastic performance from Marc Sneyd – kept a strong Warriors outfit at bay until Liam Marshall’s try just before the break.

Tim Lafai and Sam Stone fired Salford back into the contest – soon after Abbas Miski extended the visitors’ lead – but disaster struck just five minutes from the final whistle.

A short drop try was reversed and Jake Wardle took advantage of a bobbing ball to steal the points – confirmed by a try from Frenchman Bevan soon after.
