Thousands celebrate as Manchester United win FA Cup over Manchester City – best pictures

Manchester United supporters celebrate after a 2-1 win over rivals and neighbors Manchester City – but for fans watching the match at FC United it was never in doubt that their team would “do them proud”.

Reds from across Greater Manchester flocked to FC United’s ground in Moston to watch today’s game. Just before kick-off, lightning began to turn the air red and white as the 5,000 fans in attendance waited for the referee’s whistle.




Adrian, matchday secretary at FC United said: “It’s the first time we’ve had such an event. We’ve sold around 5,000 tickets.”

After Garnacho’s goal in the 30th minute, the fans erupted in joyous and euphoric chants, shouts and applause.

Screams of joy erupted again just nine minutes later when Mainoo, who has been selected for the England squad ahead of the upcoming Europeans in June, crossed for the second. The red side of Manchester could barely contain themselves, with flares and flags flying through the air.

However, nerves rose in the second half as City found their stride after a torrid first 45 minutes, with substitute Alvarez and long-range shots from Walker putting Manchester United goalkeeper Onana to the ultimate test.

The fans continued to cheer and cheer until Jeremy Doku pulled one back for the Blues in the 81st minute. With seven minutes added on and the Blues building on the pressure, the nerves and tension were palpable with shouts of “come on!” echoing around the earth.


But by the 96th minute, those watching knew they had done enough and began storming the pitch, throwing pints, shirts and hats into the air. Together, supporters gathered around the big screen set up by FC United to watch their team win the cup and take it back from the blue side of Manchester in their second successive Manchester FA Cup derby final after a wait of 142 years.

Lifelong United fan Sam said: “I’m delighted. We needed that, not just for a bit of a boost after a difficult season, but also to get to Europe. Yes, I’m happy. Ten Hag did it. his job, we won the match and I will start the Euros with a smile on my face.”
