The artist’s animation aims to help people with hoarding disorder

Ms Lee, from Kino Bino studio in Leicester, added: “This project is about showing that there are other ways to help and accepting the problem is a big part of that.”

She said she wanted to show how relationships were affected by hoarding, all the emotions you go through and how you deal with it.

“Hoarding is a problem that obviously builds up, it’s a slow burn and it can start with you not being able to let people into your house because you’re ashamed,” she said.

“I personally feel ashamed and it’s always been a secret that took me a long time to talk about.

“I think by talking about it, being honest and visible, you can help other people.”

Jo Cooke, of the UK-based charity Hoarding Disorders, said the film tackled the issue sympathetically and sensitively.

She said: “Hoarding is not a lifestyle choice, it’s not about people being lazy or dirty or failing. It is a complex mental health disorder related to issues such as trauma and bereavement.”

The project is supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), British Psychological Society, Age UK and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

A crowdfunding campaign was launched to help finance the film.
