The new Lord of the Rings movie – everything you need to knowNew Line Cinema

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is set to hit the big screen in 2024, and here’s everything we know about the cast, plot, and how it ties into the overall Lord of the Rings franchise.

We’re so ready to return to Middle Earth while we wait for Rings of Power season two on Prime Video, so let’s hope there aren’t any more delays for this animated film.

In August 2023, Warner Bros pushed the release from April to December 2024. The move was a result of the studio changing its release schedule due to the now-ended actors’ strike that affected filming in Hollywood.

It looks like War of the Rohirrim will be worth the wait at least as an exclusive first image was screened at the Annecy Film Festival in June 2023 and the first reactions are very positive.

This prequel film is set almost 200 years before the two towers and tells the story of the legendary Helm Hammerhand.

The War of the Rohirrim has been announced for June 2021, and it won’t be the end for the big screen Lord of the Rings movies. It was confirmed in February 2023 that Warner Bros is developing new films, having signed a deal with Middle-earth Enterprises.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet. Here’s everything you need to know about Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

War of the Rohirrim Trailer: Any Footage from Lord of the Rings War of the Rohirrim?

Unfortunately, the film is still in production, so it will be a while before we see anything from The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim.

The prestigious Annecy Film Festival screened a few scenes in June 2023, and the reactions were quite promising.

“Lord of the Rings War of the Rohirrim is already filming in my top 2024 movies. The (very short and unfinished) footage shown at #Annecy2023 looks fantastic. These are 100% consistent with the original trilogy, but also very much an anime I can’t wait for,” they wrote on the French website CloneWeb.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim opens in theaters on December 13, 2024, while Rings of Power is available for viewing Prime Video.
