Leeds United’s position on FA Cup replay changes was revealed this week despite the lack of a statement, with the club opposing the governing bodies’ decision to scrap replays.

As a Championship side fighting for promotion or a Premier League club fighting to stay in the division, the Whites have not often looked at the FA Cup as something to prioritize.

However, as football’s oldest competition, it has still been treated with respect by managers and fans who want to see Leeds add to their only FA Cup triumph.

FA Cup replay changes confirmed, now scrapped

A controversial FA Cup bombshell was revealed last month when the FA confirmed its decision to scrap replays next season.

The deal comes after lengthy talks between the FA and the Premier League, after some vocal top-flight managers consistently disparaged the FA Cup while complaining about match congestion.

The glut of equipment, which seems rather bizarre to complain about when you see teams further down the ladder routinely play more games than those who have now used their power to eliminate replays from the competition, ensuring there are no replays for games from the first round onwards – which does not affect Premier League teams who have lobbied for such a change.

Angus Kinnear reveals Leeds United’s position on FA Cup restart changes

Unsurprisingly, the news brought severe backlash from dozens of EFL and non-league clubs who rely heavily on the revenue generated by FA Cup fixtures, particularly a lucrative replay against a bigger team.

Leeds did not release a statement on the matter at the time, but an overview of the latest Supporters Advisory Board meeting saw CEO Angus Kinnear asked about the matter, to which he was noted as saying:

“AK says the club is disappointed with the changes to the FA Cup replay and the way it has been done.

“The EFL was not part of the decision.”

Abolishing the FA Cup replay is a joke and completely supports the big clubs

If it wasn’t already evident in other decisions, the governing bodies do a wonderful thing to favor the bigger sides every year.

Only a select few managers have made their feelings about the replays clear and you can guess who they are, because they’ve never been quiet about it – thankfully one of them won’t be at the same track next season to fuel more distance from him . ivory tower

It’s good to know we’re on the right side of that argument, considering we’ll have made a decent income from our trip to Plymouth earlier in the season.
