Binge-drinker running around casino threatens female staff and throws bin at them

A drinker on his way home walked into a Loughborough casino and ran telling staff he was drunk before knocking over a chair and becoming violent. Christopher Page, 47, threatened two female members of staff at Merkur Slots in Devonshire Square, off Granby Street in the city, and assaulted one of them.

He told them, “You had it” and “I’ll get you” before leaving the building. But then he opened the door again and shouted more abuse inside at the two women.

He then picked up a trash can with an ashtray on top and threw it inside, hitting one of the women in the leg. At Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 20, he pleaded guilty to assault by beating and using threatening behavior with intent to cause fear of violence.

Prosecutor Richard Holt described the incident, which began shortly before 11pm on Friday, May 3. He said: “The defendant was watching and shouting at casino staff saying he might be drunk.

“He held out a chair and then pushed it. He left the casino, opened the door again several times, being abusive and threw a bin inside, hitting a member of staff in the leg.”

He said women working at the casino felt intimidated and threatened by his behaviour.

Alison Hubbard, representing Page, said her client was “mortified” by what he had done. She said Page, of Kingfisher Way, Loughborough, had three children with a woman but his life changed in 2018 when she seriously assaulted him, causing him to lose an eye.
