Date confirmed for next Manchester derby after Man United beat Man City in FA Cup final

Manchester United and Manchester City will renew their rivalry as soon as August 10 following the former’s 2-1 win in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

United raced into a two-goal lead at half-time after goals from youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Garnacho opened the scoring with 30 minutes on the clock, pouncing on a City defensive blunder, before Mainoo added a second nine minutes later.

City increased the pressure after the break and pulled a goal back in the closing stages through Jeremy Doku. The substitute’s effort from outside the box was not dealt with by Andre Onana at the near post.

However, United held on to secure their first FA Cup crown since 2016, securing a second trophy in as many seasons under Erik ten Hag. It also ended City’s hopes of winning the double following their recent Premier League success.

As a result, United and City will go head-to-head again at the start of next season, clashing at Wembley in early August in the Community Shield. In the annual curtain raiser, the winners of the Premier League meet the winners of the FA Cup.

Had City come out on top on Saturday afternoon, they would have faced Arsenal for the second successive season. Arsenal faced and beat City at Wembley last August after finishing second in the Premier League.
