The Bristol road closure looks set to continue until the end of the month

Residents and drivers in north Bristol are bracing for more roadworks at a key junction, with closures set to continue until the end of May.

The closure of the main A4018 at the junction of Henbury Road and Falcondale Road in Westbury-on-Trym has caused widespread traffic congestion in the surrounding area since the first series of road closures began in March.

Signs at the junction indicated road closures would continue until May 10 – later this week. But notices on the council’s ‘One Network’ website indicate the closures will continue until at least May 29.

The closure of the main road junction was put in place to carry out works to improve the junction, resurface the road, create wider footpaths and replace an old traffic light system. The roadworks and long diversion loops for motorists trying to get past the key junction have caused daily traffic jams from Henbury to Henleaze, Coombe Dingle to Southmead and into Westbury-on-Trym as drivers try to get around the closure. .

Bristol Live has asked Bristol City Council about the progress of the roadworks and a reply is awaited, but the council’s input on the One Network website, which informs drivers of all the roadworks taking place in Bristol, indicates that not all of them will be completed . week.

The original road closure notice had the junction closed to traffic from March 18 to May 10, and the council recorded this work as “in progress”. But the council has a second traffic order which started on April 3 and runs until May 29 – indicating that both Falcondale Road and Henbury Road will be fully closed at all times and for that period – which will extend the closure the road at the junction for another 19 days.
