  • Camilla will officially be known as ‘The Queen Consort’ when Prince Charles ascends the throne.

Queen Elizabeth II announced on February 5 that she wants Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to be known as “Queen Consort” when Prince Charles ascends the throne.

During an interview with The BBC’s Emma BarnettCamilla said her upcoming role as Queen Consort was a “great honour” and would help her shine more light on important causes, including her campaign to end violence against women.

“Of course, it’s a great honor,” she said of her upcoming role. – It couldn’t be anything else.

Camilla added: “But it helps. I will keep up with these causes. You know, if I start something like this, I’m not going to quit in the middle of the channel. I hope I should. for a lifetime.”

Camilla also spoke about her future title during a visit to the Nourish Hub community kitchen in London earlier this month, saying she felt “very, very honored and very excited” after the Queen’s announcement.

The Queen made the announcement on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, which marks 70 years since taking the throne.

“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me, and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known . as Queen Consort while continuing her own loyal service,” the statement read.

The announcement marked a change in the monarchy’s approach to Camilla’s title. As Insider previously reported, the palace said in 2005 that Camilla would become “Princess Consort” after Charles ascended the throne.

Shortly after the Queen announced the Duchess of Cornwall’s new title, Prince Charles released a statement saying he and Camilla were “deeply aware of the honor represented by my mother’s wish”.

“As we have sought together to serve and support His Majesty and the people of our communities, my dear wife has been my own constant support throughout,” he added.

When the time comes for Charles to take the throne, Camilla could be officially crowned Queen Consort in a ceremony after his coronation, according to the royal website.

Clarence House representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
