Jennifer Lawrence tries to save the world in Netflix’s Don’t Look Up

Netflix has released the first trailer and new images from the upcoming star-studded comedy Don’t Look Up.

The new film, released Christmas Eve on Netflix, centers on astronomy graduate student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio), who discover that a comet is on a head-on collision course with the earth.

Seems like the perfect setup for a save the world disaster movie, right? Well, the problem is, no one really seems to care, so the pair teams up with Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan) to conduct a White House media tour of an upbeat morning show called The Daily Rip.

With just six months until the comet makes a catastrophic impact on Earth, can they manage the 24-hour news cycle and get the social media-obsessed public to look up before it’s too late?

DiCaprio and Lawrence are already a formidable pair, but Don’t Look Up also boasts a cast that includes Meryl Streep as US President Janie Orlean, Jonah Hill as her son and chief of staff Jason, and Cate Blanchett as morning show host. .

The star-studded cast is rounded out with (deep breath) Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis and Tomer Sisley.

And if all those names still aren’t enough, writer/director Adam McKay revealed to EW that Don’t Look Up also features Chris Evans in a “really funny” cameo: “I won’t say who he’s playing, but he appears in the movie.”

Christmas has proven to be a popular time for Netflix to release a major star-studded film with Don’t Look Up, following 2020’s The Midnight Sky, 2019’s 6 Underground and 2018’s Bird Box.

We’re sure it’ll be just as popular as that trio this year.

Don’t Look Up is released on Netflix on December 24 and in UK cinemas on December 10.
